Newton on Ouse Art Group Activities
Workshops and demonstrations are a frequent and popular part of our group's schedule of events.
In November 2013, Robert Brindley ran a weekend workshop for the group covering both watercolour and oils. Some excellent work was produced over the two days which culminated in a professional critique from Robert.
In March 2014 the well known Botanical Artist, Colin Swinton, gave a master class in the use of gesso and tissue paper in watercolour.
The objective of the workshop was to see the sort of results that can be achieved by introducing texture to water colour paintings. In the morning session Colin demonstrated the use of tissue paper and watercolour paint where tissue paper is crumpled and then stuck to watercolour paper.
The afternoon session was on the use of gesso and watercolour where gesso is applied to watercolour paper and then painted. The texturing could be more exact with this method whereas with tissue the texturing was more random. Everyone enjoyed the day and some excellent paintings were produced.
Our next demonstrator will be Jackie Midgley, who will cover mixed media and portrait painting on Saturday 5th April.
This is a special year for our group as we celebrate our 50th anniversary and to encourage young artists we are delighted to be holding a children’s competition for Linton on Ouse and Forest of Galtres Primary schools; the prize winning pictures will be on display during our annual exhibition.
The exhibition is held every year over the early May bank holiday weekend in the Newton village hall. The standard is always very high and of a great variety and usually receives promotion and coverage from local media and our friends at York Art Society. The venue is close to Beningborough Hall, so this is also a great opportunity to visit the beautiful National Trust property.
